Wellesley Island, NY -- A resident of Kingston, Ontario, was charged this morning with driving while intoxicated when he tried to enter the United States in a car at Wellesley Island.
State police charged Nicholas G. Ballard, 23, of 74 Division St., Kingston, with DWI about 2:45 a.m. Troopers said his blood-alcohol content registered at 0.09 percent.
Oddly, an intoxicated person trying to drive into this country is not a rare thing.
A trooper who answered a call to the state police barracks in Alexandria Bay said it happens about once a month there.
"A lot of times they get lost and don't know they're crossing the border or they don't know they're drunk," the trooper said.
