Nedrow, NY -- State police are continuing their investigation into the death of Matthew Kappelmeier, a 13-year-old Syracuse resident who was found dead Sunday outside a friend’s Nedrow home.
Kappelmeier, friends said, had taken the drug OxyContin, a painkiller, on Saturday. Troopers are investigating the death as a possible drug overdose.
Troopers said Tuesday that they have not discovered the source of the drug Kappelmeier is believed to have taken. Troopers are also waiting for Kappelmeier’s toxicology tests to come back before determining his cause of death.
Kappelmeier, of Chaffee Avenue, was discovered dead about 11:55 a.m. by Cameron Tillich, 15, outside of Tillich’s 204 W. Roswell Ave. home. Kappelmeier spent part of the day with Tillich before leaving Tillich’s home about midnight. Kappelmeier was going to walk back to his home, Tillich told police.
Instead, Kappelmeier was found on a bench in the Tillich’s backyard.
