Syracuse, NY – A Syracuse University student was taken to Crouse Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after he was hit by a car Wednesday on Comstock Avenue, SU’s public safety chief said.

The 20-year-old male student was stepping into the road in the middle of the 700 block of Comstock about 12:34 p.m. when he was hit by a 2003 Kia being being driven by a 22-year-old female student at the state College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Chief Anthony Callisto said. The driver was changing lanes at the moment the victim stepped onto the pavement, Callisto said.

He would not identify the students further, citing university policy. He declined to confirm a Daily Orange report identifying the injured pedestrian as Colin Robinson.

No tickets will be issued, he said.

“It appears that this was purely accidental and that it was bad timing, where the pedestrian student stepped off the curb while the lane change was going on,” Callisto said. “Neither would have known this was going to happen.”

Callisto said the accident took place about a block from where another student was struck by ambulance on April 1. The city has lengthened the timing of crossing signals on Comstock Avenue since then and the Public Safety department has embarked on an outreach campaign to get students to be more cautious crossing the street, he said.
