Town of Vernon, NY -- A Sherrill man was injured Wednesday night when his motorcycle collided with a deer on Marble Road in the Town of Vernon, Oneida County Sheriff’s deputies said.
Here’s what deputies said happened.
The accident occurred at about 11:37 p.m. as Robert J. Nelson, 50, was driving his 2003 Honda motorcycle north on Marble Road.
A deer entered the road from the east side and ran into the right side of the motorcycle, causing Nelson to lose control of the vehicle.
The motorcycle overturned. Nelson and the motorcycle skidded about 180 feet, crossing the southbound lane before coming to rest on the west shoulder of the road.
Nelson suffered a broken leg and other scrapes and bruises as a result of the accident.
He was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Utica with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening. His motorcycle was heavily damaged in the accident.
No tickets were issued. Members of the Sherrill-Kenwood Fire Department, Vineal Ambulance and New York State Police assisted the sheriff’s department.
