Equipment malfunction caused underground fire.
Syracuse, NY - Workers in the AXA Equitable twin towers in downtown Syracuse will not be able to report to work this morning due to a power outage stemming from an underground equipment fire near the building Sunday night.
Courtney Quatrino of National Grid said this morning that power to the towers would be cut until at least noon. National Grid hoped to have full power to the area restored by this afternoon, she said.
National Grid cut power to the buildings after an equipment malfunction caused a fire in an underground vault near the building Sunday night, Quatrino said.
Authorities were unable to determine an exact cause for the malfunction and fire due to the damage to the transformer caused by the flames, she said.
The Syracuse Fire Department also was continuing to investigate the incident.
