GEDDES, NY -- Attorney General Andrew Cuomo will visit the New York State Fair at 1:30 p.m. today.
On Tuesday, Cuomo launched an investigation into the fair, including free concert tickets, contracts and the previous management’s practice of throwing lavish parties at taxpayer expense.
Cuomo is investigating allegations that former Director Peter Cappuccilli, Jr. squandered about $860,000 in state funds, including $78,000 for his personal use.
Inspector General Joseph Fisch said in a report in early August that Cappuccilli took a $20,000 discount on catering for his daughter’s wedding at the fair.
Cuomo issued subpoenas to five companies on Tuesday and asked for records from state police and the Department of Agriculture and Markets related to ticketing, contracting, hiring and other management and financial practices involving the fair.
Cuomo, a Democrat, is running for governor. This visit is in his official capacity as Attorney General. He begins his tour in front of the Administration Building.
