Salina, NY – Officials are trying to find out how a fire started that destroyed a town-owned pavilion at Salina’s Burnham Park and heavily damaged a neighboring concession stand owned by a youth baseball league, town Supervisor Mark Nicotra said.
The Hinsdale Fire Department and Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputies were called shortly before 2:30 a.m. to the park, on Westwood Avenue off Malden Road, according to county E-911 records.
“The pavilion is a total loss,” Nicotra said. Approximately 10 picnic tables and some garbage cans were destroyed along with the shelter, he said. He did not have a dollar value for the loss but said the town is insured.
The Mattydale-Hinsdale Little League owns the concession stand, Nicotra said. Kitchen gear owned by the league and stored inside was substantially damaged, he said.
