Cicero, NY – A Cicero motel got an unwanted guest this morning – the axle off a passing garbage truck.
The truck, owned by Waste Management, was driving north on Brewerton Road about 7:25 a.m. when the front pair of wheels from the dual-axle set at the rear of the truck somehow came off, Cicero Fire Chief Dave Pangaro said.
The wheels rolled off the road and into the home of the owner of the Friendly Budget Motel and Efficiencies, 8780 Brewerton Road, Pangaro said. He did not know the owner’s name. Calls to the motel this morning were picked up by an answering machine.
The impact damaged the wooden siding of the two-story wood frame house but the foundation was undamaged, said Pangaro, whose department was called in to evaluate the structure. The garbage truck rolled to a stop but probably would need to be towed away, he said.
No one was hurt, Pangaro said.
