Geddes, NY - West Genesee Street in Geddes remained closed this morning due to an overnight crash that knocked out power in the area.

Authorities said the crash occurred shortly before midnight at West Genesee Street and Meadow Road.

West Genesee Street remained closed this morning between Parsons Drive and Terry Road.

National Grid's web site reported more than 370 customers were without power as a result of the crash. But National Grid spokeswoman Courtney Quatrino said power was expected to be restored to all those customers early this morning.

Verizon and Time Warner Cable crews also are making repairs.

Geddes Police Sgt. Robert Czaplicki said a 1988 Chevy work van hit the utility pole opposite West Genesee Street and Meadow Road about 11:45 p.m. after its driver became distracted. The driver's name was not available this morning,

The pole came down parallel to West Genesee Street, lowering its cables across the thoroughfare and the path of a Centro bus, which stopped when it hit the wires, Czaplicki said. The electrical wires were live and the bus driver and its three passengers had to stay on the bus about 15 minutes until National Grid could turn off the power, he said.

Quatrino said a National Grid crew was working in the area and was able to quickly cut power to the downed wires.

Authorities reported no injuries in the incident. No tickets would be issued, Czaplicki said.
