Skaneateles, NY – Onondaga County E-911 is now handing police, fire and emergency medical calls formerly taken by the Skaneateles Dispatch Center, county officials said.
The turnover came Monday. With it, people dialing the old seven-digit Skaneateles Dispatch number now are connected to E-911. While the old number still is active, officials asked Skaneateles residents to begin punching in 911 instead when they need help.
The Skaneateles Village Board, facing the loss of sales tax revenues, voted earlier this month to give up what was the last local full-time emergency call center in Onondaga County. The move will save the village and town of Skaneateles, which had split the cost of maintaining the center, about $170,000 each.
