Ronald J. Larkin already accused of robbing Weedsport hotel
DeWitt, NY -- A Rochester man state police charged Tuesday with holding up a Cayuga County hotel is facing an attempted robbery charge in Onondaga County, the DeWitt police chief said today.
Ronald J. Larkin, 44, of 133 Roslyn St., Rochester, was charged by state police Tuesday with robbery after he was accused of holding up the Best Western hotel in Weedsport Tuesday afternoon. Larkin was stopped on the state Thruway by a trooper after the Weedsport robbery.
The trooper got the description of the suspect’s car from the DeWitt police investigation into an attempted robbery earlier Tuesday of a Ramada Limited hotel on Thompson Road, Chief Eugene Conway said.
“We are going to charge him,” Conway said of Larkin, who is in state police custody.
Conway was unsure exactly when the arraignment would take place.
Conway gave these details of the attempted robbery on Thompson Road:
A suspect came into the lobby about 12:30 p.m., pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money. The clerk ducked out of the gunman’s view. The gunman left the lobby, got into car and drove off.
Conway said that the clerk identified Larkin as the gunman.
Conway said police don’t know why he came to the Syracuse area.
“He didn’t want to talk with state police,” Conway said.
