Auburn, NY -- Auburn police are asking the public's help in identifying two people wanted for questioning in a fire at the Genesee Elementary School playground last month.
Authorities responded about 11:54 a.m. July 18 to find fire in the playground's mulch, said police Lt. Shawn Butler. The fire had already damaged a piece of playground equipment.
The Auburn Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire at 244 Genesee St., which was determined to be intentionally set, Butler said.
The damage to a plastic crawl-through tube was assessed at $3,700, Butler said.
A school district surveillance video showed two people on school property at the time of the fire.
The information was not released until now because the police were investigating "several leads" in an attempt to identify the individuals. When those leads did not pan out, officials turned to the public for help, Butler said.
Anyone who can help identify these people should contact Auburn police at 253-3231.
