From SUNY Cortland's website at 11:27 a.m.: "A robbery suspect, possibly armed, has been tracked to the Water Works area in the city of Cortland.
"SUNY Cortland University Police have successfully evacuated the Stadium Complex and athletic fields area as a precaution. Working in conjunction with local law enforcement agencies, the University Police Department has secured that area of the campus."
Cortland, NY -- Students and faculty at the State University of New York Cortland have been advised to seek shelter and stay indoors this morning as Cortland County Sheriff’s deputies search for an armed robber near campus.
The university’s police issued a campus wide alert at 10:22 a.m. by outdoor speaker system, through telephones and email advising everyone on campus to seek shelter.
Deputies are searching for an armed suspect who robbed a KFC restaurant on Route 281 in Cortlandville at 9:16 a.m., according to the Cortland County 911 Center. The suspect wore a mask during the robbery and made off with an undisclosed sum of cash, a dispatcher said.
The suspect ran away from the restaurant and into a wooded area near the university’s campus, the center said.
