Teams will play at the War Memorial in September.
Syracuse, NY – The Iroquois Nationals and Team USA will play an indoor lacrosse game next month at the War Memorial.
But these are not the same teams that lost out on the opportunity to face each other at the World Lacrosse Championships, said Graham D'Alvia, president of USA Indoor Lacrosse. An earlier report based on a news release from the War Memorial had mistakenly said they were.
The squad that Team USA is bringing to the game scheduled for 8 p.m. Sept. 25 is an indoor club and is different from the field lacrosse team that won the world outdoor championship last month in Manchester, England, D'Alvia said.
The Iroquois Nationals team playing in September's match may share some players with the team that couldn't make it to the July tournament because of a passport controversy, but they are not really the same teams, either, said Ansley Jemison, general manager of the Nationals' field lacrosse squad.
Tickets for the game, billed as the first-ever Bowhunter Cup, range from $20 to $50, according the Ticketmaster Web site, and are available through ticketmaster.com and the War Memorial box office.
The game is a warm-up for the 2011 World Indoor Lacrosse Championship next May in Prague. The Nationals and Team USA are scheduled to compete along with Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, England, Finland and Ireland.
