Syracuse, NY – A teenager was shot in the foot late Sunday as gunfire erupted on South Avenue, police said.
Damani Prince, 16, walked into the Upstate University Hospital emergency room about 2:31 this morning with a gunshot wound is his right foot and the bullet still in his sock, Sgt. Tom Connellan said. Prince told officers he was struck while running on Sterling Avenue from shots being fired from a red Pontiac.
The Pontiac was involved in a shooting shortly before midnight after a fight broke up a party at the Chess Club, 686 South Ave., Connellan said. As the crowd left, a man wearing a plaid shirt, gray vest and blue jeans fired a handgun from the 700 block of South Avenue toward the club. The Pontiac, which was traveling west on Sterling Street from South Avenue, stopped at Hudson Street and also fired toward the crowd, Connellan said.
Prince could not provide additional information about suspects. The investigation continues, Connellan said.
