Skaneateles, NY -- Adam Weitsman, the owner of Upstate Shredding, has offered to buy The Krebs, a landmark restaurant in Skaneateles, for an undisclosed amount, the agent handling the deal said this afternoon.

Weitsman, who is building a 12,309-square-foot mansion on West Lake Street around the corner from The Krebs, intends to continue operating the restaurant and donate the profits to charity, said Linda Roche, the real estate agent who is handling the transaction.

“It’s wonderful. It’s still going to be The Krebs,” Roche said. “He will be putting people to work.”

The deal is expected to close in November, she said. Roche would not say how much Weitsman had offered for the restaurant and neighboring three-family house. The asking price was $1.2 million.

The restaurant located at 53 E. Genesee St. will remain open through Oct. 23, John Tomeny, one of the managers, said this afternoon. Tomeny said it was his understanding that an offer had been made on the restaurant, but he would not say who made it.

The Krebs was founded in 1899 by Cora Krebs, and has been passed down through family lines to Larry Loveless.

Loveless and his wife Jan ran the restaurant for 46 years. Jan Loveless, 66, was still active in day-to-day operations before she died on July 8.

The restaurant is famous for its seven-course old-fashioned dinners that feature items such as prime rib and lobster Newburg.

Weitsman plans to keep the restaurant’s original charm, while updating the kitchen and making it handicapped accessible, Roche said. Weitsman and his wife, Kim, plan to donate the restaurant’s profits to charity, she said.
