Cortland, NY -- Two people have been arrested in connection with a string of at least seven burglaries since early July around the city of Cortland, police said.
Stolen from businesses and homes were computers, jewelry, cash and electronics worth several thousand dollars, Cortland police said.
Authorities said they were able to trace stolen items from Cortland to a sale in Onondaga County. Armed with a warrant, officers searched a suspect's apartment, finding some of the stolen items.
Heather M. Smith, 29, of 2026 Route 11 S., Lafayette, was arrested Aug. 2 and charged with two counts each of felony burglary and grand larceny, Cortland Police said. She was sent to jail with bail set at $2,000 cash or $5,000 bond.
It took another week to catch up to another suspect, who was identified Sunday by an off-duty officer at the Cortland Tops Market, police said.
After questioning, Brandyn M. Hodgson, 19, of 53 W. Main St., Cortland, was charged Monday with seven counts of felony burglary, as well as two counts of felony grand larceny and one count of petit larceny, a misdemeanor, police said. His bail was set at $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.
Cortland Police Sgt. Richard J. Troyer said police are looking for one or two more suspects, and additional arrests could be made.
Onondaga County Sheriff's deputies and state police are assisting in the investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call Troyer at 607-753-3001, ext. 208, or Sergeant Daniel L. Edwards at 607-753-3001, ext. 207.
