Syracuse, NY - A Syracuse man was sentenced today to 3 1/2 years in state prison for assaulting two girlfriends several hours apart last November.

Ryan Hazelwood, 25, listing addresses on Clarence Avenue and Seneca Drive, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of second-degree assault in connection with the two incidents last Nov. 14.

Assistant District Attorney Andrew Tarkowski said Hazelwood went to the home of one of the woman and assaulted her with a baseball bat, leaving her with a broken ankle.

Hazelwood then went to the second woman's home and attacked her with the baseball bat and his fists, the prosecutor said. Authorities said Hazelwood refused to let that woman leave and told her he ought to kill her because she was going to tell the police if he let her go.

Hazelwood was driving the woman in his vehicle when she jumped out at a red light and ran into the University Hospital parking garage to escape.

Tarkowski said Hazelwood told police he attacked the two women because he believed he had gotten a sexually transmitted disease as a result of his relationship with them.
