Syracuse, NY - A suburban man accused of killing a pedestrian in a hit-run crash the evening of the St. Patrick's Day parade in March was back in court today for a pretrial conference.
Glenn A. Allen, 39, of 4771 Casimir Circle, Liverpool, stood quietly at the defense table while defense lawyer Michael Vavonese and Senior Assistant District Attorney Christopher Bednarski discussed the case at the bench with Onondaga County Judge Anthony Aloi.
Allen is accused of driving drunk and causing the death of Neil Epstein as the 67-year-old victim was walking in the street in the 600 block of Catherine Street about 8:30 p.m. March 13.
Authorities accuse Allen of driving away from the scene and then trying to conceal his car at home. He was arrested after police traced a couple of anonymous phone calls Allen made to the 911 center about the incident.
Allen told police he'd been drinking at a downtown bar prior to the hit-run crash.
He is facing charges of second-degree vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated in connection with Epstein's death.
Aloi today adjourned the case to Aug. 17 for further discussions with the lawyers. Neither Vavonese nor Bednarski today would say what was discussed during the conference with the judge or whether they had made any headway toward working out any plea deal.
