Fulton, NY -- A North Syracuse man was shocked into submission by a Fulton police officer using a stun gun this morning after the man fought with a police officer who attempted to put him into custody, Fulton police said.

Rafael I. Perez, 31, of North Syracuse, was charged with criminal contempt, a felony, resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and harassment, a violation.

Police were called about 12:45 a.m. to what was reported as a physical domestic dispute at a home in the 400 block of Cayuga Street, police said. When officers attempted to take Perez into custody, Perez was able to pull away before coming after the officer, police said.

The officer and Perez fought and the officer was able to free himself from Perez, at which time a second officer deployed his Taser stun gun and shocked Perez, police said. After the use of the Taser, Perez was arrested.

This was the first use of a Taser by the Fulton Police Department, Lt. Bill Clark said. The department purchased seven Tasers earlier this year with a $13,684 Justice Assistance Grant. In May, six Fulton officers completed training on the Taser.
