Syracuse, NY -- A Solvay woman was charged with violating Leandra’s Law when she was accused of driving drunk early Wednesday morning with three children, including a seven-week-old baby, in her car, Syracuse police said.
Jennifer Quaife, 27, of 2327 Milton Ave., was pulled over about 2:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of Lodi Street. She told police she had just left her boyfriend’s apartment, police said.
Besides the infant, there were a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old in the vehicle.
Quaife was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a felony, because of the children in the vehicle. She also was charged with common-law DWI, operating a vehicle while having a BAC greater than 0.08, and aggravated DWI for having a BAC greater than 0.08. She was also ticketed for having no taillights.
Leandra's Law, also known as the Child Passenger Protection Act, was signed into state law in November making driving drunk with a child in the car a felony.
