Syracuse, NY - A Syracuse man accused of pointing a loaded handgun at a city police officer during a struggle will remain in jail on $150,000 bail, a judge ruled today.
Onondaga County Judge Joseph Fahey rejected a defense request to lower the bail for Hikeme Williams, 22, of 206 W. Borden Ave., Apt. 2.
Williams was indicted Thursday on felony charges of menacing a police officer and second- and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.
He’s accused of pointing a loaded .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol at Syracuse police Officer Matthew LaLonde May 29 after LaLonde responded to a 911 call on Hatch Street.
LaLonde chased Williams from the scene and tackled him. As LaLonde and Williams struggled, Williams pulled the gun from the waist of his pants at pointed it at the officer, police reported.
LaLonde managed to grab the weapon and pull it away from Williams before he and Officer Alvin Herrington subdued the defendant, officials reported.
At Williams’ arraignment today before Fahey, defense lawyer Edward Klein said his client was not interested in the 12-year prison sentence being offered by the prosecution to resolve the case. Fahey adjourned the case to Sept. 29 for argument of motions.
