Chano R. Tamez, 21, of 7444 State Fair Blvd., is accused of holding what appeared to be a gun to a cab driver's head and stealing $100.
Salina, NY -- A Van Buren man is accused of robbing a cab driver in September in the town of Salina, the sheriff's office announced today.
Chano R. Tamez, 21, of 7444 State Fair Blvd., was charged Thursday with robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies, and menacing, a misdemeanor.
Deputies gave these details:
Early on Sept. 18, a cab driver from CNY Green Taxi Service received a request to take a man from the Covered Bridge apartment complex, at 850 Vine St., to the airport. When the driver arrived, Tamez got in the back seat and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at the driver.
Tamez held the gun to the driver's head and demanded money. The driver, who was unharmed, gave him $100 and Tamez fled.
Tamez was charged after an extensive investigation, which included evidence left behind by Tamez, deputies said.
Tamez was arraigned in Salina Town Court and ordered held on $100,000 bail or $200,000 bond.
