Camillus, NY - As July fades into August, the sunflowers are blooming in Camillus along Route 5.

Acres and acres of bright yellow flowers greet visitors.

Chris Cesta, who owns the nearby Inn Between restaurant, has had local farmer and Camillus Highway Superintendent Mark Pigula plant the sunflowers for several years.

This year, he and Pigula turned part of the field into a maze.

The maze, which opened Wednesday, is in the shape of a bee, and its antennae are the entrance and exit. Cesta said the bee’s shape is hard to make out from the ground because the sunflower plants are so tall.

Cesta has about 20 bee hives at the restaurant. The bees visit the sunflowers and make honey, which Cesta uses for his restaurant. The bees also pollinate the fruit orchard at the restaurant.

The maze will be open for the next several weeks, as long as the flowers are in bloom.

Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for senior citizens and $5 per family. Veterans are admitted free.
