A passenger was killed in a rollover crash this afternoon on the Thruway between Weedsport and Waterloo, state police said.
The victim was reportedly trapped under a 2003 Lexus RX 3 sport utility vehicle after it rolled over several times into the median going eastbound, troopers said. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Traffic was backed up over a 10-mile stretch after the 4:25 p.m. crash at milepost 311.8, troopers said. At least one other minor crash was likely caused by rubber-necking, troopers said.
The victim's name has not been released, pending notification of family, troopers said.
Troopers said the Thruway was busy at the time, with people headed home from summer vacations.
