Syracuse, NY -- The rainfall dampening downtown Syracuse has one bright spot – it has canceled road work that was going to restrict traffic today on Interstate 81 through the city center.
Work on guardrails was supposed to affect traffic on the superhighway from Adams Street north to the Butternut and Pearl Street on ramps and from Bear Street south to Butternut. Officials decided to put off the job when the rain came, a state Department of Transportation dispatcher said.
Motorists crossing downtown westbound on Interstate 690 also are in for good news. The West Street off ramp, closed for weeks for construction, reopened at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the dispatcher said.
