DeWitt, NY -- The state Department of Transportation is proposing safety improvements to Thompson Road and Bridge Street, between Interstate 690 and Erie Boulevard East.
The plans will be discussed at a public meeting from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., next Thursday, July 29, at DeWitt Town Hall, 5400 Butternut Drive. DOT officials will answer questions.
For Bridge Street, the DOT proposes widening the interchange with westbound I-690 to allow for two turning lanes from Bridge Street to I-690 westbound. This will eliminate the need to yield on the westbound onramp, the DOT said. A traffic light will be installed and a retaining wall built under the I-690 overpass.
In addition on Bridge Street, the state plans to resurface Bridge Street between I-690 and Erie Boulevard East.
For Thompson Road, the states proposes doing away with the yield sign for vehicles turning from westbound Erie Boulevard East onto northbound Thompson Road. The traffic light would be upgraded and the intersection resurfaced.
Roads would remain open at all times, with major repaving done at night.
Construction is scheduled to being in the spring of 2011.
