Witnesses say a woman stole a police car in front of The East Room tavern, drove it a half-block on North Collingwood Avenue and crashed into two cars in a Key Bank parking lot.
A Syracuse police officer had been called to the bar at North Collingwood Avenue and James Street, where a woman was screaming in the doorway, according to witness Dennis Wilson of Lafayette, who watched from the Key Bank parking lot.
After the woman “got in his face,” the officer told her to step back, then he turned his attention to the bartender, witnesses said. The woman jumped in the police car and drove off, they said.
Reporter Robert A. Baker is at the scene will have more details as they become available.
