Town of Onondaga, NY – Students and administrators evacuated the Gordon Student Center at Onondaga Community College for about 15 minutes this morning after a heating and air conditioning unit failed and sent smoke and fumes into a mechanical room, campus officials said.
The Onondaga Hill Fire Department was called to the building about 9:35 a.m., Onondaga County E-911 online records indicate. Firefighters quickly traced the problem to a burned-out motor in the HVAC unit, one of 11 that serve the student center, OCC spokeswoman Amy Kremenek said. People were allowed to return to the building in 10 to 15 minutes, she said.
