Sherburne, NY -- The mayor of Earlville accused of using her company credit card to purchase trips, vehicles and clothing will await action of the Chenango County grand jury after waiving her appearance in Sherburne Village Court Thursday night.
Toni Campbell, 36, was charged last weekend with third-degree grand larceny, a felony. State police have accused her of stealing more than $42,000 from her former employer, Chenango Valley Pet Foods in Sherburne.
Campbell was due in court for a preliminary felony hearing, where prosecutors would have presented evidence that she committed a crime. The case will now be considered by the Chenango County grand jury.
Campbell told state police that she never stole money from the village, where she has been mayor for the past five years. The village board is scheduled to meet Monday.
