Vernon, NY – Flags at state government buildings are to fly at half staff today in honor of Army Spc. Blair D. Thompson, the soldier from Vernon who was killed Friday when his unit was attacked by insurgents in Konar Province, Afghanistan.
Thompson, 19, already had been wounded once since shipping out in May to Afghanistan. He was serving with Headquarters, 327th Infantry Regiment, the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Ft. Campbell, Ky.
Gov. David Paterson ordered the honor for Thompson.
