Syracuse, NY - Jacqueline Bean lost her father and nephew to violence. On Saturday, she lost her son, who was a loving father to a 3-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son.
“It was the most awful day,” she said this afternoon of hearing the news of the death of her son, Shaheen Bean, 33. “He was never a bad child. He was a wonderful father. It is very painful.”
No arrests have been made in the death of Bean, who was shot at about 4:45 a.m. Saturday in front of 2425 E. Genesee St., said Sgt. Thomas Connellan, the police department spokesman.
Jacqueline Bean said her son had received his degree from BOCES in heating and air conditioning and worked for All Seasons Mechanical.
She said she did not know the circumstances surrounding her son’s death but hoped police would arrest his killer.
The family has suffered from tragedies in the past.
James “Ike” Williams, 74, a retired auto mechanic who loved to fish and spend time with his eight grandchildren, was stabbed to death in June 1991.
Ten years later, Jamar Williams Sr., 22, was paralyzed after being shot during an October 2001 dispute on West Lafayette Avenue. He died in February 2002 from a blood clot resulting from the paralysis.
Friends and family gathered at Bean’s 711 Hazelwood Ave. home Sunday afternoon.
“Tell them to stop it,” said the victim’s aunt, Beulah Canty of New York City. “Every family suffers when this happens. They have to stop hurting one another.”
