Auburn, NY -- An Auburn man fell from between two box cars of a slow-moving train Friday afternoon, police said.
Auburn police report that witnesses saw a man clinging to a ladder between cars of a Finger Lakes Railway train around 12:30 p.m. The man lost his grip, witnesses said, and fell face first onto the east side of the tracks behind 134 State St.
Police found Stephen E. Wooldridge Sr., 60, of Auburn, semi-conscious with face and head lacerations. Wooldridge was taken to Upstate University Hospital.
Police stopped the 32-car train and were told by the conductor that he was unaware Wooldridge was aboard the train. The conductor estimated the train was traveling 5 mph to 10 mph near the State Street crossing.
The incident remains under investigation and police have notified the Federal Railroad Administration.
