Syracuse, NY - A Syracuse man caught driving drunk three times within less than a week in January was sentenced today to five years’ probation and eight weekends in jail.
Robert M. Pangaro, 38, of 1010 Willis Ave. had nothing to say before Onondaga County Judge Joseph Fahey imposed the agreed-upon sentence.
Pangaro pleaded guilty March 15 to a felony count of first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and two misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated.
Assistant District Attorney James Daley said the two DWI charges stemmed from Pangaro’s arrests Jan. 7 and Jan. 8. The felony AUO charge stemmed from his Jan. 13 arrest, the prosecutor said.
According to authorities, Pangaro was given a ride home by Solvay police after his first arrest and his car was towed. But he then went and got his car and was stopped driving drunk the second time several hours later.
The third DWI arrest resulted in the felony AUO charge because Pangaro’s license was suspended after the second arrest, Daley said.
Pangaro will serve eight weekends between June 18 and September 27 at the Onondaga County Correctional Facility in Jamesville to cover the jail part of his sentence.
In sentencing Pangaro today, Fahey noted the defendant’s arrest on three DWIs in such a short period of time was evidence he had an alcohol problem and was a danger to drink and drive again. But state prison will be the penalty if that happens, the judge warned.
