Auburn, NY -- A 1950 Shelby Flyer bicycle stolen last year from outside an Auburn supermarket was recovered Friday when someone tried to sell it to a dealer of antique bicycles, Auburn police said.
The vintage bicycle was stolen in September from outside the Genesee Street Tops Supermarket. In November, Auburn police reached out to the public for assistance in getting the bicycle back, police said.
Nothing was heard about the bike until Friday, when an Auburn resident who buys and sells antique bicycles was contacted by man interested in selling him “an old bike.”
The dealer, whom Auburn police did not name, set up a meeting with the man and recognized it as the stolen bike, police said. The antiques dealer contacted police and the rightful owner identified the bicycle as his, police said.
The owner, Richard Dushatinski, was happy to get his bicycle back and declined to prosecute the man.
