Syracuse, NY - A Syracuse woman accused of attacking two police officers with a bottle and threatening a third with a knife was indicted today.

Faith McCarthy, 28, was indicted on four counts of second-degree assault, three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and single counts of attempted first-degree assault, menacing a police officer or peace officer and resisting arrest in the May 19 incident.

She’s accused of attacking Officers John “Jerry” Mulherin and Talisha LaGrange with a glass bottle while the officers were trying to arrest her on the porch of her grandmother’s home at 222 McLennan Ave. She’s accused of striking Mulherin in the head and hitting LaGrange in the head and face with the bottle.

The officers were trying to arrest McCarthy for an earlier robbery incident in which her grandmother, Roselyn Hector, was the victim.

The most serious charge in the incident stems from an incident that occurred after McCarthy was taken into custody and transported downtown to be booked.

She’s accused of attempting to assault police Officer Mark Werbeck with a large kitchen knife, threatening him with the weapon before being disarmed. Authorities said McCarthy apparently had concealed the knife on her body and managed to get possession of it as she was being brought to be booked.

Werbeck was not injured. Mulherin suffered a bruise on his head and LaGrange was treated for cuts after the incident.

The indictment also includes a third-degree robbery charge accusing McCarthy of forcibly stealing money from her grandmother on May 6.
