Blaze was so hot it ignited a utility pole 25 feet away.
Town of Oswego, NY – A vacant house and nearby garage were destroyed this morning in a fire at 207 Furniss Station Road in this suburban Oswego town.
“It was not due to lack of effort,” said Assistant Fire Chief Greg Herrmann of the Oswego Town Fire Department, which responded with Minetto volunteers shortly after 4:10 a.m. to the blaze, after a passerby alerted authorities.
The two-story wood-frame house was fully involved when firefighters arrived. It burned so hotly that the garage 5 feet away and a utility pole 25 feet from the house both kindled, Herrmann said. It took about a half-hour to contain the blaze, he said.
There were no possessions or furniture inside the house, leading officials to believe it was vacant, Herrmann said. No firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.
