Otisco, NY -- Developers planning a resort community on a 600-acre site off Octagon and Ripley roads in Otisco have extended their purchase option on the property.
The project, known as the Andor Wellness Community, calls for building 300 condominiums, single-family housing, a luxury hotel, vacation chalets, a golf course, spa, retail shops, convention center and retail outlets. The project, which will cost an estimated $150 million to build, also includes an outdoor playground for adults, outdoor amphitheater and indoor athletic center.
Tom Blair, lead attorney for the project, said developers extended their purchase option last week, and the project is still a go.
“It’s still in the design and concept stage,” he said. “There’s still a lot of stuff going on: contracts, design, planning. Really, just a lot of busy work.”
The site is currently the home of Vesper Hills Golf Course. Developers intend to redesign the course.
This season, it’s business as usual at the 18-hole public course, which opened in 1973. The clubhouse opens about 7 a.m. daily and closes at dusk.
Developers said they would not go ahead with the project if the Otisco community didn’t want it. So far, Blair said, developers have received a lot of support in the community.
“Even though there is a small opposition group out there, this is full steam ahead,” he said.
A group of Otisco residents formed the Committee to Preserve Otisco to oppose the project shortly after developers unveiled the proposal at a town board meeting in March.
As of this morning, an online petition has garnered 131 names.
