A new study suggests that twenty minutes of daily vigorous physical activity among college students could add .4 points or more to their GPA on a scale of 4.0 compared to students who do not exercise.

The American College of Sports Medicine study was presented Thursday. It further backed the idea that exercise helps to alleviate stress, increase performance and give an overall sense of well-being.

The study was done on on a group of 266 undergraduate students between the ages of 18-22. The researchers considered vigorous activity as one that makes you sweat or breathe hard. The study’s findings were consistent regardless of gender, or even major for that matter.

Researchers say that the activity doesn’t need to be done every day of the week, but the more activity a student can fit in, the better.
