What do you think of Paterson's recent moves?

After news broke that Gov. Paterson has started planning massive state work layoffs, syracuse.com users debated whether this would be a good idea. Some thought it was the perfect plan to defeat unions, others said that laying off workers wasn’t the answer. Even more questioned if announcing this plan now was too soon since layoffs wouldn’t go into effect until the New Year. Here’s what syracuse.com user ust2lvthere had to say:
"Paterson should get an award for being the first and only NYS governor who actually tried to fix the NYS budget and the first and only NYS governor to take on the unions and the greedy self serving NYS Legislature.He tried to get the disgusting unions to put off raises - not give them up, just put them off. He tried to furlough workers. He tried to cut programs. Nothing but court cases against him for his efforts.
So, what's left? Lay-offs. Hardly surprising, but they'll all squeal anyway. I am delighted. High time, I say. Too bad he's not running again, he'd have my vote in a heartbeat. Just wait and see - history will be kind to Mr. Paterson - a voice in the wilderness that is NYS politics. Now our choice is to vote out every one of them, including Cuomo. Just say NO.
Oh, did I say I'm a lifelong Democrat? No more."
