Syracuse, NY -- A Syracuse man was in critical condition Friday night after being shot in or near a barbershop on the City’s Near East Side, police said.

Syracuse Police Sgt. Gary Bulinski said police received a call around 8:45 p.m. reporting shots fired. When they arrived at Platinum Kutz ‘n’ Styles at the intersection of East Fayette Street and Columbus Avenue, they found Terrell Kirby, 28, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Terrell was taken to Upstate University Hospital where his condition was called listed as critical but stable.

Bulinski said police were in the early stages of the investigation and hadn’t yet established whether the shooting took place inside or near the barbershop. Friday night, the sidewalk around the barbershop was ringed with police crime scene tape and Columbus Avenue was closed to traffic for more than an hour.

Shortly after 9 p.m., police took one man from the scene, after checking his pockets and the cuffs of his pants. The man was not handcuffed before being placed in the back of a cruiser.

Bulinski said police were canvassing the neighborhood and urged anyone with information on the shooting to call the department at 442-5222.
