Syracuse, NY – The electricity is out this morning for more than 1,160 National Grid customers in Syracuse and DeWitt, the utility reports on its web site.
Scattered outages affecting fewer than five customers also are reported in Cicero, East Syracuse, Salina and Tully.
The main outage struck about 3:51 a.m. around Molloy Road and the Carrier Circle area, National Grid spokesman Alberto Bianchetti said. Storms rolled through about that time and officials suspect they may have caused the outage, he said. Crews already have restored power to some homes and businesses, he said.
The outage knocked out traffic signals on Thompson Road between James Street and Carrier Circle and DeWitt police urged motorists using that route to exercise caution.
Utility officials estimate power will be restored by 7 a.m. in most of the affected areas and 8 a.m. in Tully.
