Dryden, NY – State police and prosecutors will not file criminal charges in the death of a resident last month at the William George Agency.
An autopsy found that the Oct. 13 death of Alexis Javier Cirino-Rodriquez, 20, following a struggle with agency staff was accidental, state police in Ithaca said Thursday.
The autopsy determined that his death was caused “from probable mechanical asphyxiation from chest and neck compression during a struggle,” troopers said.
State police investigators said they found that Cirino-Rodriquez had assaulted a staff member and was then held to the floor by other staff members. He continued to struggle with staff until he became unresponsive, troopers said.
Tompkins County 911 was called and agency staff started performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CPR was continued while Cirino-Rodriquez was taken by ambulance to Cortland Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The Tompkins County District Attorney’s Office determined that there was no basis to file criminal charges. The case has been closed, troopers said.
