Cicero, NY -- A supporter of Cicero justice candidate Robert J. Bertrand who used the Cicero Police Department e-policing e-mail list to send a political e-mail worked for the town as a subcontractor, said Supervisor Judy Boyke.

Bertrand said William Abrams, of Cicero, contacted him offering to help with his campaign with the list of 1,500 e-mail addresses. Boyke said Abrams worked for the town in technological support for the past three years and he did have access to the e-mail list. Abrams was subcontracted and his services were not used on a regular basis, she said. His contract has been terminated.

Abrams could not be reached for comment. A phone number for Abrams provided to The Post-Standard by Bertrand had a recording that said that Abrams would not be available until Nov. 4.

Town police chief Joseph Snell’s investigation was sent to the district attorney’s office. Boyke said it would be up to the district attorney to determine if a crime had been committed.

Bertrand is running against Douglas M. DeMarche Jr., who was endorsed by Cicero’s Republican and Conservative parties and the state Independence party. Bertrand has been endorsed by the Cicero Democrats.
