Syracuse, NY -- An Onondaga County grand jury has indicted a man shot by a Syracuse storekeeper during an alleged robbery last month at a south side convenience store.

Rayshawn Johnson, 29, was indicted on charges of first-degree attempted robbery, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree attempted criminal possession of a weapon, according to papers filed today at the county clerk's office.

The indictment contends that Johnson entered Los Amigos Convenience Store, 204 W. Brighton Ave., on Sept. 27 and stole money from store owner Ruben Colon, at some point threatening him with a knife.

Colon told a reporter that he shot Johnson during the robbery with a .357 Magnum handgun. After the shot was fired, he and Johnson the wrestled for gun until his family intervened, Colon said.

That was the weapon identified by the grand jury in the count charging Johnson with attempting to possess a weapon, prosecutors said.

Johnson, who received a bullet wound to the torso during the incident, has been held without bail at the Justice Center Jail since the incident.
