Syracuse, NY -- A Syracuse man was charged with murder Wednesday afternoon in the shooting death of another man earlier this week outside a South State Street market, Syracuse police said.
Derek A. Williams, 21, of 403 W. Beard Ave., was charged with second-degree murder and first-degree attempted robbery at 1:50 p.m. Wednesday at the Public Safety Building, according to records.
The charges stem from the Oct. 24 shooting of Tavorn Hunter, 27, outside the Middle East Market on South State Street.
Williams did not shoot Hunter, Sgt. Tom Connellan said.
Williams helped plan the robbery and provided materials, including clothing, to a second suspect, Connellan said.
The investigation into the shooting is continuing and police are not identifying the second suspect at this time, Connellan said.
"He's not charged as the actual shooter," Connellan said of Williams. "That's all we can say until we get this thing wrapped up."
