But police await test results, no charges. About 25 Liverpool High School students and graduates were at Sylvan Beach
State police have received tips that two teens involved in a fatal crash Monday had been drinking alcohol.
Investigators still don’t know whether 17-year-old Victoria Deverso or Chelsea Kuss were drinking alcohol at Sylvan Beach before the accident, said Trooper Jack Keller.
Deverso, a Liverpool High School junior, was killed in the head-on crash on Route 31 in Sullivan, Madison County. Kuss, 17, a high school senior who was driving, is in critical condition.
State police are still waiting for a toxicology report to determine whether Deverso had any drugs or alcohol in her system, he said. Keller would not comment on whether the state police had taken a blood sample from Kuss, the driver.
Ten to 15 Liverpool High School students and at least 14 graduates were at the beach Monday, Liverpool High School executive principal Greg Avellino said.
“We’ve been talking to quite a number of people, including (Liverpool High School) students,” Keller said.
The Madison County District Attorney’s office would not comment on the investigation.
The two girls arrived at Sylvan Beach around 1:30 p.m., Deverso told her father, Chris Deverso, before the accident. The crash was at about 2:50 p.m. on Route 31 in the town of Sullivan as the two girls were heading home.
State police want to know whether the two girls drank alcohol prior to the crash and if so who supplied it.
