Deerfield, NY -- Two employees of a Manlius company were injured Monday morning when the commercial television antenna they were repairing in Deerfield buckled, state police said.
The industrial accident took place at 11:45 a.m. at News Channel 2-WKTV on Smith Hill Road in Deerfield.
Here’s what state police said happened.
Alpha Antenna Services, of Manlius, had been hired by WCNY to do some repairs on the 350-foot television antenna tower.
The three employees, wearing full body harnesses, were being hoisted up the tower by a cable system when the antenna located at the very top of the tower buckled. The men were 20 to 30 feet off the ground.
The buckle created slack in the hoist cable causing the three to plummet to the ground.
Two workers, William Fox, 49, and Kelly Dougherty, 30, were injured. Fox suffered severe facial injuries and Dougherty injured his foot. The third worker, Gregory Campbell, 44, was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
The victims were taken to St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Utica by Kunkel Ambulance. Members of the Deerfield Fire Department assisted at the scene.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration also responded.
