The Syracuse area’s continued its long climb out of the recession in September as the unemployment rate fell and jobs increased.

The average unemployment rate in Madison, Onondaga and Oswego counties dipped to 7.5 percent last month, from 7.6 percent in August and 8 percent in September last year, the state Department of Labor said Thursday.

The rate was noticeably lower than the state’s 8 percent and the nation’s 9.2 percent jobless rates. Still, it meant that 25,000 of the 330,800 people in the area’s labor force were out of work.

There were 900 more jobs in the three-county area in September, compared with the same month last year. The private sector accounted for all of the job creation. There were 2,500 more private sector jobs and 1,600 fewer government jobs.
