LaFayette, NY -- A LaFayette man is in state police custody today, accused of holding up a Route 20 apple orchard stand at gunpoint.
Matthew M. Town, 27, of 1486 Berwyn Road, was charged with felony robbery in the Oct. 18 hold up O’Neill's Orchard, 4873 Route 20, LaFayette. No one was hurt in the robbery.
Troopers released a police sketch of the suspect and a description of the suspect’s vehicle, a white Dodge conversion van. The van’s description was also released to Syracuse police officers last night, troopers said. Four hours into the shift Wednesday night, a Syracuse officer doing an Operation Impact tour in the city found the van at South Geddes Street and Bellvue Avenue and pulled it over, troopers said. Town was taken into custody at that time.
Town was arraigned in LaFayette Town Court and ordered held on $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond.
